Liam Birchley had to do the talking as well as the training with Liesele before she ran at Caulfield on Saturday.
And he proved supremely efficient at both.
"After her last run the owners had a chat with me about maybe sending her to stud," Birchley said.
"It was either pull the pin or race on for another year.
"But I thought she had a bit of unfinished business left in her."
Birchley admitted the "business" Liesele produced in the Listed Alinghi Stakes (1100m) was more than he'd anticipated, particularly after she drew barrier 14 of 15.
After beginning on terms with the field, jockey Damian Browne eased Liesele ($21) back to be near last at the 800m and only a couple of places closer turning for home.
But the mare who was unwanted as a yearling swooped on the leaders 50m out to score convincingly by three-quarters of a length from Sumakaray ($11).
Lohnspresso ($11) took third a further length away.
For Birchley, the win was his second at Caulfield in as many Saturdays following the equally impressive success last week of Missy Longstocking.
With stud duties now well and truly out of the question for another year, Liesele is likely to be set for a similar race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
