Jay Ford has been suspended for seven meetings and fined $2000 for careless riding aboard Listed City Tattersall's Club Cup winner Kingdoms at Randwick on Saturday.
The John O'Shea-trained stayer, who has a tendency to be wayward, raced greenly in the straight and ran out sharply over the final stages of the race.
His actions sparked a double protest from the riders of both placegetters but they were dismissed by stewards and Kingdoms kept the race.
However, Ford didn't escape the stewards' room unscathed and was held to account for not making enough effort to stop and straighten his horse.
"We can't have races being decided in the stewards' room with someone throwing caution to the wind, not stopping riding and placing other riders in jeopardy," Murrihy told Ford.
He was also slapped with a fine over what stewards deemed to be a win-at-all-costs attitude.
Ford will begin his penalty on Wednesday and can return on November 1, a day before Kingdoms is due to contest the Lexus Stakes at Flemington in a bid to qualify for the Melbourne Cup.
Apprentice John Kissick was reprimanded by stewards over his decision-making aboard Riva De Lago in the City Tattersalls Club Handicap.
Kissick admitted to making a "critical error" by not coming to the outside of eventual runner-up Coup Ay Tee in the early part of the straight.
Murrihy told Kissick he needed to learn from the mistake.
"It's simply not good enough that ride," Murrihy said.
