Deagon trainer Darren Bell hopes his hours of work teaching star two-year-old Setfire To Therain to settle in her races will pay dividends at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Setfire To Therain landed a big plunge at Eagle Farm two weeks ago and earned a high rating for the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on January 11.
The Monashee Mountain filly, who was backed from $11 to $2.90, blew the field away with sheer pace in the Eagle Farm win.
However, Bell, who is looking at his first Magic Millions Classic runner, admitted it isn't the style of racing which wins Queensland's richest race.
"We know you can't win the Millions with a horse who just gets out of the barriers and flies.
"Since her last run we have spent a lot of time getting her to settle. She worked with Skating Away (Bell's top-class older mare) this week and she galloped in behind her," Bell said.
It was that work which has given Bell high hopes Setfire To Therain will not be just a speedy squib.
"But until you see it in a race, well you just don't know," he said.
Setfire To Therain will have a short let-up after Saturday's race and then have one more start before the Magic Millions Classic.
"You don't get much time to get them ready for the Millions. But at least we have the prize money in the bank and even if she only runs a place on Saturday that should ensure she gets a start," Bell said.
