Treve named Cartier Horse of the Year

Treve has been named Cartier Horse of the Year at the 23rd annual Cartier Racing Awards in London.

Trained in France by Criquette Head-Maarek, the Sheikh Joaan Al Thani-owned filly is unbeaten in five starts and secured a stunning five length triumph in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

Treve saw off strong opposition from Sky Lantern, Moonlight Cloud, Novellist and Al Kazeem.

She also takes the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly award.

Moonlight Cloud claimed the Cartier Older Horse award.

Trained by Criquette's brother, Freddy Head, the five-year-old mare is unbeaten this year and secured three more Group One victories to her impressive CV.

There is also the prospect of further glory as she heads out to the Hong Kong International Races next month.

Novellist, Al Kazeem, Declaration Of War and Farhh were the other Cartier Older Horse nominees.

The Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt award went to the Aidan O'Brien-trained Magician who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita earlier this month.

Racing Post Trophy winner Kingston Hill was named leading Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and Chriselliam was given the award for Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly.

Lethal Force scooped the accolade for Cartier Sprinter after recording consecutive Group One victories in Royal Ascot's Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

Her Majesty The Queen's Estimate, who won the Ascot Gold Cup, was named leading Cartier Stayer ahead of Altano, Tac De Boistron, Brown Panther and Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux.

Jim Bolger was awarded the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit for 2013.

The Irishman's decorated racing career began in the 1970s and encompassed unbridled success as a trainer, owner and breeder.

Aidan O'Brien and Tony McCoy were amongst those who learned their trade under the master handler.
