X-rays clear fall-guy Gauci of fractures

Thursday 28 November 2013, 1:41pm

Darren Gauci is bruised and battered from a race fall on Wednesday but the veteran jockey hasn't ruled out riding on Saturday.

Gauci was taken to hospital on Wednesday after he fell from his mount Royal Mephisto near the finishing line of a race at Bendigo.

The four-time Melbourne premiership winner said on Thursday he was OK but "just a little bit sore".

There had been fears he fractured a wrist but X-rays have cleared him of any breaks.

"I was pretty lucky," he said.

"I got caught up in something and I lost my footing on my iron."

The popular jockey spent more than nine months out of the saddle recovering from injuries sustained in a fall at Mornington in 2011.
