Lady Echelon dispelled any queries about her fitness when she won the Travel Associates Classic at Doomben on Saturday.
Having her first start since July, Lady Echelon ($11) saved ground close to the fence and held off Jacquetta ($15) to win by a head with Doubtfilly ($6.50) a half length away third.
Trainer Natalie McCall was concerned how Lady Echelon would cope with the 1200-metre trip first-up in heavy ground.
"I was a bit suspect whether she was going to be nippy enough first-up over that distance," McCall said.
"Obviously at this time of year we weren't expecting to have a heavy track and I only gave her one quiet trial at Deagon going into the race so there's still plenty of improvement in her."
McCall said Lady Echelon will have her next start in the Just Now Quality (1350m) at Doomben on December 14.
The Bernborough Handicap (1625m) at Toowoomba on New Year's Eve is also an option for Lady Echelon if she races well in the Just Now.
The four-year-old enhanced her reputation as a superior wet-tracker having won her previous start at Eagle Farm in heavy going.
Jockey Tim Bell was happy to maintain a position close to the fence, despite earlier winners charting a course down the centre of the track in the straight.
"I felt there wasn't much difference in the state of the track from inside to outside and it made no difference to her," he said.
"She cherished the heavy track and would've won no matter where she was on the track."
Discreet was heavily backed to start the $3.30 favourite but failed to handle the conditions, finishing 11th.
