Craig Newitt has made his mark on the Wodonga Cup program, riding four winners including the feature race on Stratigraphy.
After bungling the start, the Mick Price-trained $4.40 favourite came from back in the field under hard riding from Newitt to beat Grand Sai Wan ($8) by three-quarters of a length in Sunday's $80,000 Cup (1590m).
"He bombed the start which ended up being a blessing because I was able to find the fence straight away," Newitt said.
"They went hard and I was just able to pick my way through them when a couple of them dropped off coming to the corner.
"He got out and he just had to let go like he has in his last couple and I knew he was going to be hard to beat and he hit the line really well."
It was Stratigraphy's sixth win from 24 starts but Newitt said his record could be much better.
"We would have liked him to have won a few more races until now but he's got a few little quirky habits but he did everything right today," he said.
Newitt's other winners came on Bringenbrong and Toolangi for leading local trainer Brian Cox and Vapourise for another Wodonga trainer David O'Prey.
