Loveyamadly set for Doveton Stakes: Price

Thursday 5 December 2013, 3:36pm

Straight-talking trainer Mick Price insists Loveyamadly has been aimed at the Doveton Stakes and is the best of his three chances in the Listed sprint.

But the trainer also will not discount the prospects of Vicario challenging for the placings in the $120,000 race at Caulfield on Saturday.

Loveyamadly is the $3.50 favourite to return a winner on her home track, while stablemates Halle Rocks and Vicario are at double-figure odds.

"Loveyamadly has been set for the race and wins if she is good enough on the day," Price declared.

A winner of six of her 10 starts including a Listed victory at Moonee Valley last preparation, Loveyamadly hasn't started since missing a place for the first time when favourite in the Group Three Irwin Stakes in Adelaide in April.

Price's only query with the Listed winner is that the mare hasn't raced for almost eight months but she has had a couple of jumpouts leading into the Doveton.

"I am mindful that she has had a long time between runs but I think from barrier five out of 10 she won't be far away," the trainer said.

"She has worked well and trialled well and I think she's fit enough for 1000 metres.

"She's certainly the best of my three."

While Loveyamadly is the most favoured of Price's trio, the trainer says Vicario can run a sneaky race.

Vicario, who has won twice first-up in lesser company, is chasing valuable black type and has the advantage of the inside barrier.

"I think Vicario is not to be underestimated fresh over 1000 metres," Price said.

"Our realistic expectations of Vicario are that she may run a place.

Price said he would be surprised if Halle Rocks improved enough to figure in the placings.

The Doveton Stakes is the feature on the Caulfield program.

The Brian Cox-trained Sumakaray is on the second line of TAB fixed odds betting at $4.60 ahead of Vatican ($5) who is after a first stakes victory.

Comeback galloper Chase The Rainbow, who has been off the scene for 15 months, is on the fourth line at $7.50 along with Rescue Mission.
