BRISBANE Dec 21 AAP - Veteran jockey Larry Cassidy's nerves were tested to the limit after a hair-raising win at Doomben on Saturday.
Cassidy, who is a multiple Group One-winning jockey, has rarely ridden better in a career which goes back 25 years.
But he had to call on all of that experience when he was forced to drive through a needle-eye opening to land General Exhibit a winner in the Qld Barrier Trials on SKY Handicap (1200m).
"I thought the leader Rocket To Glory would hang but when she didn't I had to wait for a split and in the end it was very narrow," Cassidy said of his ride on the $1.70 hotpot.
It was the second time in two days that Cassidy had a nerve-bending ride on a favourite after he landed Badger's Drift at Ipswich on Friday.
Badger's Drift hit the lead on the home turn and then charged towards the outside fence giving Cassidy a nightmare ride before winning by five lengths.
Cassidy completed a Doomben double on Arctic ($9) in the Sky Racing No.1 in Racing Handicap (2020m).
But there were even anxious moments leading up to that win when Cassidy revealed Arctic bolted on him in trackwork on Tuesday.
"The extra work probably made the difference," Cassidy joked.
