Perspective gained from travelling with champion sprinter Takeover Target could lead to a Moonee Valley success for Canberra trainer Neil Osborne.
Takeover Target's trainer Joe Janiak engaged Osborne's float company to transport the much-loved galloper around Australia in his racing days.
The great performer's win over a gallant I Am Invincible in the Group One Goodwood in 2009 convinced Osborne to send his mare Snippety Bay to the young stallion.
"I liked the horse (I Am Invincible) because we carted Takeover Target everywhere he went and he probably put as much pressure on him as any other horse," Osborne said.
However, the bloodstock sales companies were not impressed with the result of I Am Invincible's mating with Snippety Bay, leaving Osborne to race the Moonee Valley Quest Plate (1000m) contender I Am Snippety.
"I couldn't sell this little one because none of the sales companies wanted her," Osborne said.
I Am Snippety began her career with a fighting second to the boom filly Echo Gal at Warwick Farm on December 13 but a lack of suitable races in Sydney or Canberra forced Osborne to look to Melbourne for the two-year-old's next assignment.
"The 1000 metres is the reason for bringing her down," he said.
"There's nothing in the bush over 1000 metres, not even a two-year-old race, and the Sydney two-year-old races are 1100 or 1200 (metres)."
Osborne said I Am Snippety's Moonee Valley performance was vital for the future of her younger brother which is set to sell at next month's Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling sale.
"That was another reason not to tip her out after Sydney," Osborne said. "I thought we'd give her one more and try and win a race for the full brother.
"It would be perfect timing to add something to his value if she was able to become a city winner."
Osborne has engaged veteran jockey Darren Gauci to ride I Am Snippety in the $80,000 contest. The filly will begin from barrier six.
I Am Snippety is an $8.50 chance in TAB.com.au's early market on the event with the Mark Kavanagh-trained Chivalry heading betting at $2.70 after his debut second at Flemington.
