Josh Parr is set to be the beneficiary of a light attrition rate for the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.
Parr has been booked to ride the Peter Moody-trained Pink Perfection in Saturday's Australian Turf Club Handicap (1000m) at Warwick Farm.
The filly, second emergency for the Gold Coast feature, is in residence at Moody's satellite stable in Sydney and it appears increasingly unlikely she will be gifted a start in the Classic field in time to make the trip north.
If she doesn't go to Queensland, Pink Perfection will instead line up at Warwick Farm in a race Moody's Sydney foreperson Clare Cunningham rates as an ideal target.
"Warwick Farm is a lovely race for her as a back-up," Cunningham said.
Pink Perfection is favourite at $2.20 for the Sydney event ahead of Shaftesbury ($3.40), a first starter from the Gai Waterhouse stable.
Shaftesbury finished third to stablemate Fighting Sun in a barrier trial last month and that horse has since franked the form with an impressive debut win at Rosehill on January 4.
"That was the quickest trial of the morning, he ran third but you throw him in any other trial and he probably wins it and goes to the races as a trial winner," stable spokesman Mark Newnham said.
"His trial form is good and his work has been good."
Tim Clark will partner Shaftesbury while Adam Hyeronimus teams up with the Waterhouse-trained Rule Book, third pick at $4.20 for the TAB Rewards Handicap (2400m).
The import turned in his best Australian performance when he led and fought on for second to Koroibete over 1800-metres at Randwick on December 14.
He has not raced since but Newnham said the European-bred horses appreciated having their runs spaced.
He also feels Rule Book will be suited by the significant rise in distance.
"He needed a mile-and-a-half," he said.
"He's done really well and for those European-type horses, they're not disadvantaged by having a gap between runs. Their aerobic capacity is fantastic."
Saturday's program also looks like being a lucrative one for leading trainer Chris Waller.
Waller has starters in six races, five of them favourites.
The consistent Said Com is regarded as his best chance to score an overdue win in the Western Sydney Handicap (1600m).
