A handy book of rides has Glen Boss poised to reduce Damien Oliver's premiership lead at Flemington.
Oliver is riding at Saturday's Magic Millions meeting on the Gold Coast while Boss has a full book of rides in Melbourne with three of the early favourites on the eight race card.
The reigning premiership winner, Boss is trailing Oliver by five wins in this season's Melbourne jockeys' standings after Oliver rode a treble at Caulfield last Saturday.
Two of the early favourites Boss rides at Flemington - Instrumentalist and Reckless Assassin - were successful under Oliver at their last starts.
Boss starts the day on short-priced favourite Bugatty in the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) for two-year-olds.
The colt was second at Moonee Valley on debut on December 28 behind Chivalry when ridden by Dean Holland, and is one of two runners in the six-horse field with race experience.
Bugatty's co-trainer Michael Hawkes felt an awkward barrier played against him on debut and said the colt worked a bit too hard, too early which told at the finish.
"He's going to take some beating tomorrow," Hawkes told Melbourne's RSN Radio.
"He's going really well and has improved since his last run."
The John Sadler-trained Reckless Assassin has won her past two starts at Moonee Valley over 2040m and is the $2.60 favourite in the Jezabeel Handicap (2000m), while the Chris Waller-trained Instrumentalist scored narrowly over 2540m at Flemington under 60kg on December 21 and is $5 favourite in the Rain Lover Handicap (2500m).
Boss rides outsider Dash For Viz in the main race on the card, the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes.
