The here-today gone-tomorrow nature of two-year-olds is something Gerald Ryan always bears in mind but so far all has gone to plan with the much-hyped Rubick.

The colt has been supported into second favouritism for the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes even before his first race start which is scheduled for Randwick on Saturday.

The trainer admits his publicised opinion of the colt may have been the catalyst for the early spruiking and he hopes Rubick backs it up in the 2YO Plate (1000m) as he did when he won a barrier trial by more than seven lengths.

"He had a good gallop on Saturday morning," Ryan said.

"He worked over half a mile (800m) and I was pleased with how he went.

"So far he's done everything right. I've said I think he's as good as Snitzel and I haven't changed.

"But we'll have to see what he does on Saturday."

Ryan's amateur jockey son Blake rode Rubick in the work-out but Brenton Avdulla, who spent Saturday riding in New Zealand, will gallop him again this week and jump aboard for his debut.

There were 10 other nominations taken on Monday for the race including the Clarry Conners-trained Create, a six length winner of a recent Warwick Farm barrier trial.

Gai Waterhouse has nominated Valentia and Twirl, a filly by Lonhro out of Cirque Du Soleil who was a $675,000 yearling.

Rubick cost $460,000 and is part-owned by his breeder Musaffar Yaseen. By Encosta De Lago, the colt is out of Sliding Cube, a daughter of grand broodmare Shantha's Choice whose most famous offspring is Redoute's Choice, a Group One winner and champion sire.

Annatime, Statton and last-start Warwick Farm winner Pink Perfection are the only youngsters among the entries with previous race experience.

The Kim Waugh-trained Annatime ran third in a 1000m race behind Nayeli and Saturday's Inglis Classic winner Peggy Jean while Statton was fifth over 1100m at Rosehill in a race won by Fighting Sun from Inglis Classic runner-up Boomwaa.
