Irish horse Gordon Lord Byron has become the second international raider confirmed to take part in the inaugural running of The Championships.
A dual Group One winner, the gelding will make his Australian debut in the Group One George Ryder Stakes on March 29.
Trainer Tom Hogan is then leaning towards a start in the $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes two weeks later, although the $3 million Doncaster Mile on the same day is also an option.
The Championships CEO Ian Mackay said Gordon Lord Byron was a class horse with an established international record.
"Gordon Lord Byron is a proven winner at the elite level who has run in Hong Kong, Dubai and France," Mackay said.
"He's a serious contender and travels very well."
Trained by Tom Hogan, the globetrotting sprinter-miler has raced in five countries and is a Group One winner in France and England.
He has finished fourth in the past two editions of the Hong Kong Mile and in October was runner-up to outstanding mare Moonlight Cloud at Group One level.
Moonlight Cloud came within a head of beating champion Black Caviar at Royal Ascot.
Gordon Lord Byron is one of two internationals confirmed for The Championships with Japan's Hana's Gold also set to make the trip to Sydney.
