Mick Price is leaning to Lankan Rupee over three-year-old stablemate Lion Of Belfort as his best chance in Saturday's Group Two Rubiton Stakes.
Stakes-winning Lankan Rupee and Group One-placed colt Lion Of Belfort resume in the 1100m sprint at Caulfield ahead of a planned assault on three of Melbourne's Group One sprints.
"I fancy Lankan Rupee because he's a four-year-old gelding so he's a year more mature and he's fitter," Price said.
Lankan Rupee is the $3 favourite with Lion Of Belfort on the second line at $3.30.
The duo won barrier trials at Cranbourne last Thursday but Price feels they could still be a little vulnerable late in Saturday's race.
"Both of mine have only had one trial and I usually give them two," Price said.
"So if they are a little bit vulnerable at the finish I'll cop it sweet, but Lankan Rupee won't be far away.
"I'm thinking that Lion Of Belfort will end up one-out and one-back or something like that and he'll run a good race.
"If he peaks 100 metres out that would be OK."
The two gallopers are set to follow the same path with the Oakleigh Plate second-up on the agenda before the Newmarket Handicap and the William Reid Stakes.
Lankan Rupee won a 1000m Listed race at Flemington, beating Snitzerland, during last year's Melbourne Cup carnival before ending his spring campaign with a Group Three win in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1200m).
Lion Of Belfort won three of his five starts in his first campaign, including the Blue Sapphire (1200m) at Caulfield before finishing third to Zoustar in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes.
