Dual Group One-winning West Australian galloper Playing God has suffered a tendon injury and been retired.

The six-year-old entire was to embark on a swansong campaign in the east, starting in Saturday's CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield but was scratched from the 1400m event on Thursday because of injury.

He is expected to head to stud later this year.

"I was looking forward to Saturday," trainer Neville Parnham told Racing Victoria.

"He worked extremely well at Mornington on Tuesday morning but yesterday evening I wasn't super happy and this morning we scanned his leg and confirmed he's got a lesion there in the tendon.

"It's one of these things that happen in the race game. We dont like it, but it happens."

Playing God won eight of his 42 starts including the back-to-back Group One Kingston Town Stakes in Perth in 2010 and 2011.

"He's been a wonderful performer for the stable," Parnham said.
