Apprentice Anthony Allen put a week of turmoil behind him to win on Mac's Addiction at Doomben on Wednesday and in the process proved one of trainer Steve Tregea's theories wrong.

Racing Queensland stewards charged Allen under a little-used rule relating to excessively slowing the pace of the field in a 1200-metre race at Doomben last Saturday.

However, after examining sectional times stewards dropped the charge against Allen on Monday.

Allen showed why he is rated one of the best apprentices in Australia when he brought Mac's Addiction ($3.90) along the rails to beat Surface Tension ($4.20) by 1-3/4 lengths in the HLB Mann Judd Handicap (1640m).

He later made it a double when he scored aboard Gala Affair for Lindsay Gough in the HLB Chessboard Handicap (1350m).

Tregea said Mac's Addiction, who was backing up from an unplaced run at Doomben on Saturday, was as tough as they came.

"He is capable of winning a Saturday race and Anthony just showed us something we didn't believe," Tregea said.

"We always thought he had to come wide on the track with a horse inside him to do his best but today he came along the fence, so there goes that theory."

Mac's Addiction continued a good run of form for the trainer-jockey combination which teamed up for some brilliant wins during the summer with the flying Love Rocks.

"Love Rocks is back in work but I don't know if he will be ready for the winter. His legs aren't the most correct and you always hold your breath with him," Tregea said.

What Happenedhenry, who finished third to Mac's Addiction, has been retired and will start a new career as a show horse.

By boom sire Fastnet Rock, What Happenedhenry was bred and raced by Racing Queensland Ltd chairman Kevin Dixon who said the gelding had more than paid his way with earnings of almost $280,000.

Ballina trainer Steve Lee was a happy man after Yo Ferdinand ended a run of seconds for the trainer by winning the Mullins Lawyers Handicap (1350m).

"I've had seven seconds in the past week or so. Yo Ferdinand hasn't been hitting the line but Chris (Munce) got going on him a bit earlier today," Lee said.
