McDonald appeals Cup suspension

Wednesday 7 November 2012, 2:37pm

James McDonald will have his appeal against a careless riding suspension arising out of the Melbourne Cup heard on Friday.

McDonald rode Fiorente into second place behind Green Moon but was outed for causing interference to Sanagas near the 800m as he steered his horse out from behind a weakening Ethiopia.

His suspension is scheduled to begin on Friday and expire on November 20.

McDonald has been booked for Group One rides on Saturday aboard Satin Shoes in the Patinack Farm Classic and Secret Admirer in the Emirates Stakes.

Premier Victorian jockey Luke Nolen, who was also outed in the aftermath of the Cup, will front stewards at Thursday's Oaks meeting to answer questions about his conduct in the inquiry.

Nolen pleaded fatigue and asked for Tuesday's hearing into the charge for his ride on the unplaced Lights Of Heaven to be adjourned.

Chief steward Terry Bailey denied the request saying it was not a complicated matter to which Nolen replied: "Thanks Terry, you've been great today mate."

Ethiopia's jockey Rhys McLeod was the third jockey suspended from the Cup.

All three ride in Thursday's Group One Oaks with McDonald to partner Kate, Nolen (Ten Black) and McLeod (Gondokoro).
