Fiorente continues Australian Cup build-up

Wednesday 26 February 2014, 6:03pm

Gai Waterhouse will make a special trip to Melbourne on Thursday to watch stable star Fiorente stretch his legs in a track gallop.

The Melbourne Cup hero is a $1.90 favourite to add Saturday week's Australian Cup to his record following his winning return in the Group Two Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield.

Waterhouse, who was at Randwick's Kensington track meeting on Wednesday, said she planned to be on hand for the six-year-old's next piece of work in Melbourne on Thursday morning.

"He's fabulous. He's just breezing up over 1400 metres," she said.

Fiorente is a dominant favourite for the Australian Cup ahead of Foreteller and 2012 Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon at $8.

Three-year-olds Shamus Award and Thunder Fantasy, who will both contest this weekend's Australian Guineas, are the only other runners under double-figure odds at $9.
