An electrical storm which delayed the races for an hour turned out to be a blessing for trainer George Osborne with three-year-old Written Up in the Listed Bendigo Guineas.
Written Up's only previous win came on a slow track at Bendigo in May last year and Saturday's track, which had been in the good range until race six, deteriorated with heavy rain before the 1400m Guineas was run.
Written Up scored in a close finish by a half neck over Gracious Prospect ($31) with Mahican ($6) a short half-head away third.
"The wet track was a bonus but the good barrier became a question mark," Osborne said.
"Jamie (Mott) rode him terrific and got off the fence."
Osborne was confident Written Up wasn't far away from another win and has set his sights on a $250,000 race at Flemington in three weeks for VOBIS Gold horses.
"I've had this race and the next race planned a long way out and we didn't have him wound up last start, so we were pretty confident he could run a big race today," the trainer said.
