Best Yet To Come takes out Princess Stakes

Jockey Jason Taylor urged connections to reconsider spelling Victorian filly Best Yet To Come after her last-stride win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Matthew Ellerton-Simon Zahra trained Best Yet To Come ($8.50) scored by a nose to Quest For Peace ($41) with a short neck to Little Bit Ditsy ($4.80) in the $100,000 Princess Stakes (1600m).

Taylor told stable representative Shaun Dwyer jnr he hoped the filly was staying in Brisbane for the longer three-year-old winter carnival races.

He said Best Yet To Come would be an ideal horse for the Brisbane winter and was a promising horse.

"She's a big filly and we got a couple of bumps. It was a very good effort at her first run the right-hand way of going," he said.

"I might have to ring the owners on the way home."

Best Yet To Come was the second leg of a winning double for Taylor after he knocked most punters out of the first leg of the quadrella aboard Natural Dancer ($81 into $51).

Winning trainer Kim Craft said Natural Dancer had run seven placings from seven starts for her and she felt the filly had a place chance again.

"But don't ask me what we will do with her for the winter. Let me get over this first," she said.

Meanwhile, jockey Damian Browne continued his great strike rate on Excellantes ($4.40) when they combined to win the Listed Winning Edge Quality (1200m).

Browne, who has ridden Excellantes 10 times for seven wins and a second, believes the gelding is capable of winning another Listed or Group Three race during the winter carnival.

Trainer Rob Heathcote has made a special project of Excellantes who has come back from a virus.

"He is three lengths off the best horses but there will be a 1200-metre race for him during the carnival," Browne said.
