More For Me makes winning debut at Sandown

Saturday 26 April 2014, 1:13pm

More For Me's career has started at Sandown without a hint of the controversy that surrounded her mother's first trip to the races almost a decade ago.

More For Me's dam Langness blitzed her opposition on debut in the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield in 2005 but stewards stripped her of the win.

Langness's win was wiped from the record books when stewards declared the Preview a no-race and the result derailed her chances of winning the Blue Diamond Stakes.

More For Me did not show her mother's blistering speed early in the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1000m) on Saturday with the Peter Moody-trained youngster settling in the second half of the field.

Jockey Linda Meech sent More For Me ($11) to the lead at the 100m before the More Than Ready filly held off the late challenge from the $2.20 favourite Husson Eagle to score by a short neck.

But Meech said More For Me's lack of experience told in the drive to the finish.

"I was confident she had a fair bit left but she was lost," Meech said.

"It's a big Hillside track and first-starter two-year-olds, they can get lost on it."

Moody's representative Zach I'anson said the trainer could spell More For Me to give her extra time to develop.

Husson Eagle's jockey Katelyn Mallyon made no excuses for her mount's defeat while the Danny O'Brien-trained Bondeiger ($21) came from last at the 400m to finish third.
