Our Boy Malachi extends win spree to 11

Saturday 26 April 2014, 2:04pm

Rockhampton rocket Our Boy Malachi's record-breaking win on Saturday could see him sent to Sydney for a stint with the Hawkes Racing partnership.

Our Boy Malachi ($3) made it 11 wins in a row when he broke a class record by clocking 56.61secs in the Greenslopes Emergency Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

The gelding, unbeaten in 10 runs for Rockhampton trainer and former Queensland Rail painter John O'Sing, is now expected to be weighted out of country racing.

O'Sing said Our Boy Malachi was likely to back up in the Bribie Handicap at Doomben in a fortnight before a decision was made about a transfer to the Hawkes stable in Sydney.

"We want to give him a chance to prove himself during the winter and then if he is good enough he will go to Sydney," O'Sing said.

Our Boy Malachi was originally trained at Gympie by Peter Fleming.

Rockhampton jockey Adrian Coome made a rare visit to the city to ride Our Boy Malachi and maintained his lead in the overall Queensland jockeys' premiership with 96-1/2 winners for the season.

Allan Denham will have a big decision to make with impressive two-year-old Furbish, who won the Greenslopes Maternity Handicap as the $1.45 favourite.

Furbish showed he would be hard to beat in a race such as the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m) but stand-in trainer Len Wheeler wasn't sure if Denham would press on with the gelding.

"It is his first preparation and he is promising so they might even take him home," Wheeler said.
