Trainers don't often break into a smile when a rival runs a record but that was the case with the Gold Coast-based Noel Doyle this week.
He trains smart filly Aimee who will be one of the favourites for the Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Aimee won her three starts before a spell in impressive style and also won a barrier trial at Deagon on April 24, beating Rosella by a half length.
Track watchers rated it one of the best trials in recent months as they were 12 lengths in front of the third horse.
Rosella confirmed the barrier trial form when she came out and won a two-year-old race at Eagle Farm on Wednesday in class-record time.
"It showed exactly what we thought of the trial in that Aimee's effort was very good in it," Doyle said.
Aimee will press on to the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Doomben on May 24 and then the Group One JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm on June 8.
"In the long term we are looking at the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne," Doyle said.
"I have always said she would be even better as a three-year-old."
Aimee's jockey Jason Taylor said he could hardly wait for Saturday as the filly drew barrier six.
"We drew off the track in all of her wins and it means we can ride her the way we want," he said.
Trainer Bryan Guy was also all smiles when his filly Grapevine drew barrier one.
"We had the extreme outside last time and she ran terrific. But you will see a different horse from the inside on Saturday," he said.
Grapevine's future will depend on Saturday as she could join stablemate Stroak in the Sires' and Atkins or could be restricted to 1200-metre races.
