A career that once promised so much will be relaunched at Caulfield on Saturday when Group One winner Brambles makes his return from injury.

The five-year-old has not raced since dominating the Queensland winter carnival races for three-year-olds in 2012 with victories in the Rough Habit Plate, Grand Prix Stakes and the Group One Queensland Derby.

Brambles missed the spring of that year before a tendon injury kept him out of 2013 and the recent autumn carnival.

"He was on the water walker for a year and then we have brought him back up slowly," trainer Peter Moody said.

"We never really thought about retiring him because of his ability.

"He was a Group One winner at his last start and they don't lose their ability."

Brambles makes his return on his home track in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1440m) and is rated a $12 chance to make a winning comeback.

Moody said immediate plans for Brambles after Saturday were undecided.

"We might keep him going for Brisbane or we might decide to give him maybe one more then give him a break before the spring. We'll just see how he goes," Moody said.

Brambles has not been nominated for any of the Group One races during the Brisbane winter carnival.

The Thoroughbred Club Cup is one of two Listed races on the Caulfield card with Moody represented by debut Flemington winner Easy Drama and also Armada in the Sky High Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds.

And unbeaten three-year-old filly River Delta will get her chance to seal a perfect first campaign when she lines up as favourite in the Sportscover Insures VAFA Plate (1440m).

River Delta is chasing her fourth-straight win but Moody has resisted sending her interstate to chase black type.

"We looked at taking her somewhere for a stakes race but decided she'd just about done enough," Moody said.

"She will go for a break after Saturday and we'll look forward to the spring."
