Unanimously goes back to back in Plate

Thursday 1 May 2014, 5:46pm

Accomplished sprinter Unanimously etched his name into country NSW racing's record books with his second Wagga Town Plate win on Thursday.

Trained by Matthew Dale, Unanimously become only the fourth horse - and the first in nearly 40 years - to win the bush sprint for the second year in a row.

The six-year-old made his own luck, sitting outside the leader before taking over at the 200m.

Under the urgings of Blake Shinn, Unanimously kicked away for a decisive win.

In taking his earnings past $500,000 from eight wins in 33 starts, Unanimously joined Grafteline (1907-1908), Prince Wal (1972-1973) and Prince Morgan (1974-1975) as back-to-back Plate winners.

The victory was Shinn's second Plate success after he scored aboard Adamon in 2012.

Dale has now trained three Plate winners after Little Shrek's 2006 victory.

Unanimously started favourite at $2.50 after he was backed from $2.70 and had two lengths to spare over the leader Grey Drama ($41) with Living On A Prayer ($7.50) a head away third.
