Griante is likely to stay in Melbourne through the winter months but connections have their eyes on Group races with the Caulfield winner.
Griante's waywardness cost her a city win at Caulfield on April 19 but gear changes were the catalyst for a different result in Saturday's Sportscover Insures VAFA Plate (1440m).
Well backed from $4.60 into $3.70, Griante settled second for Dwayne Dunn before she sprinted clear late to beat Jessy Belle ($4.20) by three-quarters of a length.
The previously unbeaten River Delta started the $3.20 favourite but struggled into third after leading the field into the straight.
David Feek, who trains Griante in partnership with David Brideoake, said the Good Journey filly was a natural wet tracker but all but ruled out a trip to Brisbane.
"I think she's going to relish winter ground so while she's up and running, we'll keep her going here," Feek said.
"We'll probably keep her down here because the VOBIS money is so good and she's a proven wet tracker so there's no need to travel."
Dunn said the Caulfield track favoured those finishing out in the middle of the course, which helped his cause when Griante drifted out late in the race.
The jockey said Griante might be a better filly on a right-handed track.
"She might go better that way because there might be a little issue we are missing with her," he said.
