Owner Grania McAlpine has celebrated a change of luck with her filly Tinto racing into calculations for the Group One Queensland Oaks with her win in the Gold Coast Bracelet.
McAlpine thought her chances in the Listed Bracelet (1800m) had been dashed when the filly drew the outside gate.
But with rain in the lead-up to Saturday's race, the outside alley turned out to be an advantage on the heavy track.
"It is amazing how luck can change," McAlpine said. "When the field came out I was distraught we had drawn the outside alley."
Tinto ($10) outlasted Paris Match ($7) by a half head with 4-3/4 lengths to Asadauskite ($3.80) in third.
It was Tinto's first win since she her debut in a two-year-old Plate at the Gold Coast on March 16 last year.
Tinto is one of only a handful of horses raced by Grania McAlpine whose husband Scott McAlpine is the stud master at Eureka Stud where Tinto's sire Red Dazzler stands.
Scott McAlpine is the main shareholder in Group One winning brothers, Temple of Boom and Spirit of Boom, who are headed towards the Group One Stradbroke Hcp (1400m).
Grania McAlpine will now also have a Group One runner thanks to Tinto's big hearted win on Saturday.
Trainer Rex Lipp said Tinto would now run in the Doomben Roses (2020m) in a fortnight and press on to the Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on May 31.
"I think she will have to run in the Roses to get ready for the 2400m," he said.
