Bel Sprinter will wear blinkers in his final attempt to snare a Group One this season.
The gelding runs in The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday and trainer Jason Warren has once again tinkered with his gear in an attempt to get the best out of last year's Galaxy winner.
The six-year-old has not won since he took out the Group One Galaxy and Warren opted to take winkers off and try blinkers after Bel Sprinter beat only one horse home on a heavy track in the TJ Smith Stakes last month.
"I just wanted a gear change after a poor run," Warren said.
"I put the poor run down to the heavy track as much as anything.
"But this is his last throw at the stumps for a Group One this autumn."
Warren said Bel Sprinter, who will be ridden by Craig Newitt, pleased him in a jump-out at Balnarring on Friday wearing the blinkers.
"He's always been a bit of a fierce-going horse so we've never put them on before," Warren said.
"But now he's settling. He's in good order and he'll run well next week. Then he'll spell before the spring."
Warren is hoping Saturday is a big day for the stable as Bel Sprinter's younger brother Bel Rain runs at Flemington in a 1400m race for three-year-olds.
Bel Rain made a winning debut in a maiden on the Geelong synthetic track on April 24 and Warren said he had improved since his two-length victory.
He intends to keep the colt going over the next few weeks before turning his attention to the spring.
"My plan this preparation is to elevate his rating," Warren said.
"He's three and he needs to get his rating up to get into better races."
The trainer is unsure if Bel Rain will make the step up to stakes races in the spring and will be guided by his next couple of starts.
"He doesn't have the turn of foot his brother has got but he's got a bit more scope. He might get out to a mile (1600m)," Warren said.
"Bel Sprinter, with the throat problem that he's had, 1200 metres is the max for him."
