The first Group One of the Brisbane carnival could be overshadowed by a Listed race featuring bush star Our Boy Malachi against Cape Kidnappers.
The two are scheduled to clash in Saturday's Bribie Hcp (1110m), one of the support races on Saturday's BTC Cup program at Doomben.
Our Boy Malachi has been roaming his yard in Rockhampton since making it 11 wins in a row in a restricted class race at Eagle Farm on April 26.
His only defeat was at his first start when he ran second at Mackay three years ago as a two-year-old.
Trainer John O'Sing is keen for the gelding to prove himself in the winter to set up a possible transfer to the powerful Team Hawkes operation in Sydney.
A final decision on a Bribie start will be made when O'Sing assesses the standard of the field.
Cape Kidnappers' trainer Kelly Schweida is among those trainers hoping the predicted rain stays away for the six-year-old who has won seven of his 10 starts.
"He really should be unbeaten," Schweida said.
"I was forced to start him a couple of times on bog tracks and that's when he got beaten."
Cape Kidnappers won a trial at Doomben last week beating the handy sprinter Saluter.
"It was a good trial but he needs to race. I do nothing with him on the track," Schweida said.
A total of 15 horses have been nominated for the BTC Cup with champion sprinter Buffering heading the list.
Trainer Matt Dunn will decide early this week whether to accept with Londehero and The White Hope who were both scratched on Saturday because of the wet track.
Meanwhile, trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith has told stewards Famous Seamus had a black eye on his near side after being hit by a clod when fifth in the Victory Stakes on April 26 but is expected to line up in the BTC Cup.
