Trainer John Thompson gave jockey Ryan Wiggins all the praise for rejuvenated mare Pretty Pins winning at Doomben on Saturday.
Pretty Pins ($26) drew the outside alley in a field of 13 but was able to get to the fence and then went around only one runner in the straight.
The five-year-old went on to win by two lengths to the favourite Danchai ($1.90) with a half length to Brave Ali ($13) in the Chairman's Handicap (2000m).
Pretty Pins had been struggling to find form in Sydney but had run an improved fifth in the Members' Cup at Eagle Farm three weeks ago.
"She seems to have thrived back in Queensland," Thompson said.
"I don't know whether it is the sunshine or she just feel happy being back here but she has really done well up here.
"But if you really want to talk about the race I would give Ryan 12 out of 10 for his ride. He ended up going around one horse in the straight after coming from the outside alley."
Thompson admitted Pretty Pins' win had caught him short when talking about future plans.
"This was going to be her grand final so I suppose we will just have to see what is around for her," he said.
Pretty Pins did her early racing in Queensland, winning four times and contesting races such as the 2012 Queensland Oaks.
Wiggins said the race had panned out perfectly and Pretty Pins had sprinted well.
"I got behind Brave Ali and I thought he had won his past three races so I would let him take me into the race," he said.
Nash Rawiller, who rode Danchai, said the gelding had run home well but Pretty Pins had sprinted too quickly in the straight.
Brave Ali ($13) showed his recent run of success was no fluke when he fought on well for third after leading into the straight.
