Two jumps races added to Sandown meeting

Wednesday 14 May 2014, 3:10pm

Sandown will host a 10-race meeting next Wednesday with two jumps races added to the program.

Racing Victoria announced the two jumps races scrapped from next Monday's Moe meeting had been moved to the Sandown fixture.

A hurdle and steeplechase race were cancelled from the Moe meeting because riders said the track needed more time to consolidate before it could safely hold jumps races.

With a hurdle race at Murray Bridge in South Australia next Wednesday, Racing Victoria first decided against moving the two races to Sandown because of concerns about jockey availability.

But after consultation with Thoroughbred Racing South Australia, the Melbourne Racing Club and jockeys' and trainers' representatives a maiden hurdle and a steeplechase will be run at the Melbourne midweek meeting.
