Co-trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra will turn their attention to the spring with Pin Your Hopes after the gelding rounded out his season with a first city win at Caulfield.
Zahra said Pin Your Hopes ($4.80) needed to stand up and be counted in Saturday's Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1600m) and the four-year-old gelding did just that.
Angled into the clear at the top of the straight by Katelyn Mallyon, Pin Your Hopes chased favourite Onpicalo ($2.80) down to win by 1-1/4 lengths.
It was Pin Your Hopes' fourth win from five 1600m starts and his first victory in the metropolitan area.
Zahra said the stable had been patient with the son of Pins who is out of an unraced daughter of multiple Group One winning-mare Giovana.
"We've always had a good opinion of him and we've just let him get through his grades and placed him right and taken our time," Zahra said.
"Mathew has placed him pretty well and today he had to show us he could put his right foot forward.
"Hopefully he can have a nice break now and come back in the spring."
