Her front legs don't work properly but three-year-old filly Atmospherical is on the way to proving the conformation experts wrong after winning the Denise's Joy Stakes at Scone.
Atmospherical made it four wins in five starts when she overcame a wide passage to beat Fare Well and Miss Alibi over 1100 metres in Saturday's Listed race.
Trainer David Pfieffer said he was prepared to gamble on the Northern Meteor filly when most horsemen would have shied away because of her imperfections.
"Watch her front on," Pfieffer said. "She's all over the place.
"But I was happy to take her on because of her pedigree."
Atmospherical's dam is the Flying Spur mare Faster Pussycat and she counts stakes winner Gai's Choice and Peron as half-sisters. She is now just as valuable as her siblings with her first black-type win.
Giving jockey Tim Clark an early Scone double, Atmospherical sat three deep but had the advantage of following another runner before peeling out to make her run.
Atmospherical soon put paid to Miss Alibi to establish a clear lead but Pfieffer was concerned she would be vulnerable to Fare Well's finish.
"I thought Fare Well was going to get her for sure," he said.
"But my filly has got everything you want in a horse. She's always been impressive at home on the track and every time she goes to the races she runs good time."
Time has been a crucial factor in other ways during Atmospherical's sudden rise with Pfieffer holding her back from the races until December.
"The key with these types of horses (with bad legs) is not to push them early," Pfieffer said.
Pfieffer, rated a trainer on the move in Sydney, said he would be tempted to send Atmospherical to Brisbane to chase more stakes success.
"We'll pick the eyes of the Brisbane races and see what we find," he said.
