A word of advice from Darren Beadman contributed to Kerrin McEvoy winning the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic on Seaside at Scone.
Retired jockey Beadman is the newly-appointed assistant to trainer John O'Shea at Darley Australia and was on duty on Saturday for a stable quinella in the 1400m race in which Seaside held off Aerobatics.
McEvoy had Seaside well back but wide, a tactic suggested by Beadman.
"Darren walked the track this morning and said it was starting to cut up a bit on the inside," McEvoy said.
"He told me not to be afraid to sit a bit wide if I could find cover.
"She got into a nice rhythm and while we might have hit the front a bit early she won well.
"She has improved fitness-wise and will improve again and there might be another nice race in her.
"The stable has got into its rhythm now with John and it is exciting to have DB (Darren) aboard to offer advice."
Two Blue set a solid pace with Seaside settling worse than midfield but travelling well.
McEvoy took her wide on the turn and she gradually worked to the lead while Aerobatics was finishing hard even wider out, failing by half a length.
Even wider was Robert Thompson on the locally trained Myamira who finished the same margin third.
"Aerobatics won the Darley Crown at Hawkesbury and Seaside ran sixth and today it was Seaside's turn," Beadman said.
"It was a really good run by Seaside at Hawkesbury.
"This win is important to Seaside from a breeding point of view.
"Both horses had a great foundation and John has changed things around a bit and I think that has helped the psychology of the horses."
Beadman is unsure whether either or both of the horses will go to Brisbane.
"John will be playing it by ear," Beadman said.
"We will take them home and see how they pull up but both horses seemed to have a trouble-free run."
