Proven straight track performer Riziz will tackle a Listed sprint at Flemington on Saturday after trainer Ken Sweeney weighed up options in two states.
Riziz, a last start Group One placegetter, will carry topweight of 60kg in Saturday's $120,000 Straight Six instead of running in a 1000m event worth considerably less at home in Adelaide where he was given 62.5kg.
A couple of minor setbacks meant Riziz had to go into Adelaide's premier sprint, The Goodwood, first-up, running an admirable third.
The five-year-old settled midfield in the 1200m feature on May 10 and raced closest to the inside turning for home to hit the front before being chased down by runner-up Platelet and winner Smokin' Joey out wide.
"It was a great run. He was probably just one run short," Sweeney said.
A dual Listed winner over the 1200m straight course at Flemington, Riziz will be ridden by Chris Symons who has been aboard the gelding three times including the Goodwood and for his 2012 Creswick Stakes win.
Four other horses which raced in The Goodwood are also nominated for Saturday's event including fifth-placed Ready To Rip.
The Peter Moody-trained Ready To Rip has 59.5kg while Goodwood sixth placegetter Karacatis has 57kg and meets Riziz 3kg better.
Sweeney said Riziz had come out of his last start well and worked nicely on Tuesday.
But he conceded the weight made his task a difficult one and that was his biggest query heading into the race.
"He's probably weighted out of it," the trainer said.
"He's earned the weight, so he's got to go around with it."
Riziz's only defeat in three Flemington starts was his fifth, beaten just over two lengths, in the Group Three Aurie's Star last August.
"He's been around the mark. I just hope he's around it again now he's gone up in weight," Sweeney said.
