Gold Coast-based Grant Morgan knows every syndication business needs a horse to bring it to the top and he believes smart two-year-old Brazen Beau could be his.
Brazen Beau is favourite to make it three wins from four starts when he steps out in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
Morgan has been one of the success stories of Australian racehorse syndication since he launched his Ontrack business nearly a decade ago.
The syndicate's all-gold colours are now carried by 30 horses with seven trainers in three states.
The 2013-14 season has been a good one for Ontrack with about 17 individual winners but there is little doubt much is riding on Brazen Beau on Saturday.
"We look for horses who are potential black-type winners. We want city Saturday winners and these days it isn't much use looking for provincial horses," Morgan said.
"When we started we had a bit of luck in getting a smart horse in Faster Son and then Barlinnie and Fabriana won good races for us."
However, Morgan admits that if Brazen Beau can win on Saturday and then take the Group One JJ Atkins it would be a great boost.
"We have had our share of success in black-type races and Brazen Beau won a Group Two in the Champagne Classic at his last start," he said.
"But obviously the Sires-JJ Atkins double is high profile. Zoustar won it last year and went from there."
Brazen Beau is trained by Chris Waller who has dominated the Brisbane winter in recent years.
Morgan said Zoustar, Boban and Pressday were three horses Waller had brought to Brisbane as unknowns and they had gone on to be stars.
"Chris knows the right horses to bring to Brisbane and he is impressed with Brazen Beau. Let's hope his run of wins can continue."
