Cranbourne trainer Shawn Mathrick will press on with Queensland winter carnival plans for Gig in the hope of a break-through stakes victory.
The five-year-old ex-Darley mare finished a closing third behind former stablemate Limes and Tasmanian galloper The Cleaner in a 1400m Open handicap at Flemington on Saturday.
Her effort was enough to convince Mathrick to continue with plans to take her north for two feature fillies and mares races in Brisbane.
Gig will contest the Group Two Dane Ripper Stakes on June 7 and the Group One Tatt's Tiara two weeks later, with both races over 1400m at Eagle Farm.
"I'll push on and take her up north for the two mares races and see if we can get a bit more black type. Maybe a win," Mathrick said.
"It was a super run."
Gig was beaten just over half a length on Saturday in her 12th start for Mathrick since he paid $61,000 for the mare at the 2013 Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale.
The daughter of Commands has netted a Flemington win and three stakes placings since joining the stable, more than repaying her price tag with more than $146,000 prize money.
Mathrick has also run Gig in two Group One races. She finished sixth in the William Reid Stakes and sixth again in the Robert Sangster Stakes.
The trainer believes the mare will be competitive in Brisbane.
"She's just so consistent," he said.
"Because she gets so far back, she just needs a bit of luck in the running.
"But back to her own sex, even in that company, I think she'll give a good sight.
"I'm not worried about her ability, she's just probably her own worst enemy getting that far back.
"But I can't be disappointed. If you had told me when I bought her that I was going to end up with what she has done, I would think you were lying to me."
