Well-backed filly Tinto is poised to complete the first leg of a rare double for her sire Red Dazzler if she can win the Group One Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm.

Tinto has been backed into second favourite following her win in the Gold Coast Bracelet and a second to Arabian Gold in the Doomben Roses, the main lead-up race to Saturday's Oaks.

Red Dazzler also has a top chance in the Queensland Derby (2400m) on Saturday week when he will be represented by Rudy.

No Queensland stallion has produced the winners of both the Oaks and Derby in the same season since Lysander 11 whose offspring Amby's Love (Derby) and Meanmi Shadow (Oaks) completed it in 1971-72.

Red Dazzler stands at Eureka Stud on Queensland's Darling Downs and Tinto is part-owned by Grania McAlpine, the wife of Eureka's stud master Scott McAlpine.

"Eureka has been having a great winter with Temple Of Boom, Spirit Of Boom, Theft and Pure Purrfection all winning since the carnival started," Scott McAlpine said.

"Now we hope it is Grania's turn."

He said the stud had a history of producing Classic winners including 2006 Queensland Derby victor Ice Chariot and 1982 Queensland Oaks heroine Mother Of Pearl who both hailed from the stud, as well as 1986 AJC Oaks winner Just Now.

Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp is hoping he can cement his long-time relationship with the McAlpine family by winning the Oaks with Tinto.

Lipp worked at Eureka early in his career and has gone on to become a Group One-winning trainer.

"Of course, the question is the 2400 metres at Eagle Farm which is a bigger track than the Gold Coast and Doomben," Lipp said.

"But I liked the way she hit the line in the Roses after she copped a bump on the home turn. The distance question mark is the same for most of the runners."

Trainer David Vandyke reported Oaks favourite Arabian Gold appeared to have suffered no ill-effects from a trackwork incident on Tuesday when she dislodged a shoe.

"She worked fine and we have had a vet and farrier go over her," Vandyke said.

"But these things can blow up after 48 hours so we will keep everyone posted because I realise she has been well backed this week and people are entitled to know how she is going."
