Tattsbet begins Brisbane tote operations

Wednesday 28 May 2014, 1:44pm

Gambling giant Tattsbet began operating as Brisbane's on-course tote agent on Wednesday amid speculation a corporate bookmaker was keen to sponsor the Doomben racetrack.

The on-course totalizator rights were held by rival Tabcorp until Wednesday when Tattsbet began operations at Doomben. Tattsbet will take over betting at Brisbane's other track, Eagle Farm, from June 30.

As yet no exclusive contract for sponsorship and advertising has been signed.

It is understood at least one corporate bookmaker is keen to gain sponsorship rights at Doomben and Eagle Farm similar to some tracks in the southern states.

Brisbane Race Club chairman Neville Bell confirmed interest had been shown.

"The deadline for someone to have exclusive rights to all Queensland betting and sponsorships is June 30," Bell said.

"If nothing is signed by then there might be more news on the corporate bookie sponsorship front.

"But I can't say anything more than that."
