As a young man with big aspirations to be a trainer, Chris Waller drew inspiration from his heroes and posted a picture of jockey Jim Cassidy on his wall.
On Saturday the pair put on a clinic at Rosehill with Waller leaving with five winners, Cassidy with four and the combination recording a treble.
Cassidy rode the Waller-trained Sniper Fire, Amovatio and Kristy Lee and added a victory aboard Transonic for John Thompson.
Waller's other winners were Mamwaazel, ridden by young gun Jason Collett who is some 30 years younger than Cassidy, and Tromso with Josh Parr aboard.
For Waller, who is powering to his fourth Sydney premiership, having Cassidy ride the stable's horses is a confidence booster.
"Jimmy has so much confidence in himself and he passes it on to trainers and owners," Waller said.
"To be so consistent and maintain it year in, year out is remarkable."
Cassidy said there was no secret to his longevity - he was enjoying himself doing what he has done since he was 14.
One of a handful of riders to win the big four races in Australia - the Golden Slipper, Cox Plate, Caulfield and Melbourne Cups - Cassidy says he still has plenty to give.
But the day he doesn't is the day he will give it away.
"The key is I enjoy myself," he said.
"And the day I stop enjoying myself and I don't want to do this, I won't need Chris Waller or Gai Waterhouse or anyone else to tell me.
"I'll know when to go."
Waller had five chances going into the final race of the day with a rejuvenated Tromso coming out on top.
The seven-year-old's racing pattern changed accidentally when Parr rode him at Hawkesbury in November and he found himself leading.
That was the case again on Saturday as Tromso ($9.50) held off Honorius ($18) to win by three-quarters of a length with favourite Queenstown ($3) a nose away third.
"Tromso and I get on really well," Parr said.
"He seems to relax for me.
"I'm pleased to be part of such a day for the stable. I would have felt left out if I hadn't won."
The five-timer for Waller came 54 weeks after he achieved the same feat at Rosehill, his home track.
