Jumps jockey Richard Cully has capped a successful few days in two countries with victory in a prestigious steeplechase race in New Zealand on Monday.
Two days after claiming the Australian Steeplechase at Sandown on Krase, Cully was to the fore at Ellerslie on Monday when he partnered the Ben Foote-trained Amanood Lad to victory in the McGregor Grant Steeplechase (4150m).
Cully won two jumps jockeys' premierships in New Zealand in 2010/11 and 2011/12 when he was based across the Tasman.
His 2014 season in Victoria has included victory in the Grand Annual Steeplechase at Warrnambool last month on Chaparro.
Cully was narrowly denied a feature double at Sandown on Saturday when his mount Fieldmaster was run down in the concluding stages by the brave Gotta Take Care in the Australian Hurdle.
Amanood Lad's victory brought up a double for Cully on the day after he also won a maiden steeplechase.
