Tiger Dimejan impresses at Doomben

Friday 13 June 2014, 3:33pm

Early in her career Tiger Dimejan was rated just behind her half brother Cape Kidnappers, the winner of two stakes races over the Brisbane winter carnival.

However, luck has been against Tiger Dimejan in the past 12 months.

Tiger Dimejan needed time to recover mentally and physically after being sidelined for seven months in 2013 due to a stripped hind tendon suffered when she was galloped on during a race.

Her trainer Kelly Schweida got her back to the races in March and things were progressing well until her third run back.

"She won at her second-up run this campaign but then nearly came down in bad interference at her next start at Doomben," Schweida said.

"It was horrific to watch and how she stayed on her feet I don't know."

The four-year-old gave Eagle Farm horseman Schweida plenty to smile about on Friday with an impressive victory at Doomben.

Tiger Dimejan ($2.50 fav) sat outside the leader before coming away in the straight to beat Rose in Bloom ($2.70) by 2-1/2 lengths in the NHP Hcp (1200m).

Apprentice Luke Tarrant got plenty of praise from Schweida for the winning ride.

"He is only small. When he gave me the saddle to ride 57kg I took a dip there was so much lead in it. But he shows commonsense and he has a future," Schweida said.

Tiger Dimejan will now tackle fillies and mares races during the rest of the winter.

Meanwhile, trainer Danny Bougoure has big wraps on his colt Neptune Palace ($6) who won the CNW Hcp (1200m).

"He won first up at the Gold Coast last time and then I put him in a Group Three race (the Vo Rogue Plate) which probably bashed him up a bit," Bougoure said.

"This time we will take him along in easier races but I do think he is handy."

Apprentice Tegan Harrison turned in a superb ride to bring Neptune Palace through the field to beat Octane flyer ($4.20) by a length.

"Tegan has been riding with great confidence and is showing the benefit of being competitive in the Group races this year," Bougoure added.

It was Harrison's 66th Queensland winner and her 37th on metropolitan tracks for the season.
