Any assignment is easier than chasing the world's best sprinter Lankan Rupee at the moment.
Lankan Rupee vaulted into the top 10 racehorses in the world with an international rating of 121 when he blitzed his opposition in the Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March.
General Truce finished eight lengths behind the rampant Lankan Rupee in the Newmarket but returns to Flemington for an easier test in Saturday's sixth heat of the All Victorian Sprint Series (1100m).
The dual Group Three winner will take on seven rivals in the $100,000 contest, which surprised General Truce's trainer Ricky Maund.
"There were only 16 entries but I thought there would be at least 10 in the race," he said.
"Eight in the field could be a bit tricky but he's going well."
Maund will be one of a host of trainers keeping an eye on the weather at Flemington on Saturday.
General Truce has won twice on slow ground but Maund says such conditions would negate the gelding's acceleration in the latter stages of his first-up outing.
"His biggest problem will be if the rain comes because he's not right at home on the wet ground," Maund said.
"He quickens well on the good or dead ground but not as well on slow or heavy."
Apprentice Jordan Childs will take 3kg off General Truce's 60kg impost, which will leave the four-time stakes winner to carry 3kg above the minimum for Saturday's race.
Punters have let General Truce drift from $3.80 to $4.40 in the early betting while Adelaide visitor Nearest To Pin also opened at $3.80 but has eased to $4.60.
The Thief has finished less than a length from the winner in all three of his Victorian starts but punters have supported him from $7.50 into $6.50 to score his first win since arriving from Darwin.
Former Queensland sprinter Doubtfilly has also had good support, firming from $6 into $5 to score a debut win for the Danny O'Brien stable.
Doubtfilly won six of her 26 starts and more than $675,000 in prizemoney for her original trainer Stuart Kendrick before clients of O'Brien's paid $300,000 for her at a recent broodmare sale.
