A humbled Joe Pride will take over the stable of the late Guy Walter from next month following Wendy Walter's decision not to extend her interim training licence.
Pride will continue to operate his own successful Warwick Farm stable as a separate entity to that of his close friend and neighbour.
Wendy Walter advised clients on Friday of her decision and recommended Pride as the ideal successor.
"I'm honoured to be taking it over," Pride said.
"I won't be blending the two stables together. The staff will remain separate but help each other out."
In the meantime, it is business as usual for Pride who has a strong team at Rosehill on Saturday.
He is relying on the raw talent of Ball Of Muscle to help the up-and-coming sprinter overcome a month of misadventure.
A half brother to Group winners Tiger Tees and Terravista, Ball Of Muscle will make a belated city debut in the Eric Kime Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday, two weeks after he was scratched from the same venue on race eve.
"We were all set to run but he pulled a shoe half-off and stood on a nail on his way home from the pool," Pride said.
"Obviously that ruled us out for that run."
After nursing the horse through the effects of his wardrobe malfunction, Pride decided to give him a barrier trial last week.
However, the wet weather in Sydney put paid to his plan when the trials were washed out.
Ball Of Muscle's lack of race fitness is a source of angst for his trainer.
"I don't like going in after four weeks with nothing in between but at the same time, what can you do? He's a pretty talented horse and what I've learned over the years is that talented horses overcome obstacles," Pride said.
Pride's Rosehill team also includes a trio of runners in The Million Dollar Mango Hcp (1100m), including new recruit Casual Choice.
Stakes placed behind Platinum Kingdom in the 2013 South Pacific Classic, Casual Choice had his spring campaign cut short by a hind leg injury which required surgery.
Based on his two recent barrier trials, Pride is taking a cautiously optimistic approach.
"He's trialled like he's going to need a run but I don't underestimate horses of his ability," Pride said.
Pride will also saddle up Green Beret and Earnest Ernest in the race and says their respective chances will be determined by the track conditions.
"If it's a dead five or better, Green Beret is my best chance and if it's slow or worse, Earnest Ernest."
