Previously unbeaten colt Cappella Sansevero was bought by Al Shaqab Racing for £1,300,00 at the Goffs London Sale on Monday, but he lost his perfect record in the Group II Coventry Stakes when going down to Starspangledbanner colt The Wow Signal.
Trained by John Quinn for Al Shaqab Racing, who purchased him after his runaway nine length debut win at Ayr last month, The Wow Signal was always travelling well for Frankie Dettori from an inside gate and forged clear to win the six furlong contest by a length and three-quarters.
"He has come and beaten the best colts available today and he has been up there all the way, he wasn't held up to run a race he was right there on the speed,” said John Quinn.
"I think he deserves a lot of credit. He didn't just come from out of the pack he was there all the time. He could have capitulated but at the line he was going away."
Purchased for 13,000 euros as a yearling, The Wow Signal then made 50,000 guineas earlier this year when he was sold at the Tattersalls Ascot Select 2YO Breeze Up to Sean Quinn.
The Wow Signal becomes the very first stakes-winner for 2010 Royal Ascot hero Starspangledbanner and is the first winner for Muravka, an unraced half-sister by High Chaparral to stakes-winner Tolpuddle.
Starspangledbanner is now based at Rosemont Stud in Victoria where he will cover a limited book of 50 mares this spring. Check out his stallion profile on Bloodstock.com.au by clicking here
His first Australian runners will debut next season and keep a watch on his other Royal Ascot runners this week – Moonraker, Anthem Alexandra and Effusive.
