Michael Rodd will be back aboard one of his favourite mares when he partners Hai Lil at Moonee Valley.
Bendigo trainer Allen Browell was able to secure Rodd's services for Hai Lil with the pair to shoot for their fifth win together in the Alternate Railway Handicap (1000m).
"She's a great mare with a big heart," Rodd said.
Hai Lil has won three of six starts at Moonee Valley but missed a place at her only start at 1000m.
Rodd said the trip was short of Hai Lil's preferred distance of 1200m but the jockey was confident Hai Lil's affinity with the Moonee Valley track would offset the negative factor.
"She's good fresh but the 1000 metres is a little bit of a concern because they might be a bit too nippy for her," Rodd said.
"She usually races over 1200 metres first-up but she's back at Moonee Valley where she has a great record."
Bookmakers have installed the winner of six of 16 starts as the $5.50 third favourite behind Klishina and Bloomingdale Miss at $4.60 and $4.80 respectively.
Both Klishina and Bloomingdale Miss both boast multiple victories over 1000m while the latter is unbeaten at the track.
Rodd said Hai Lil would give the speedier mares a start but the four-year-old would be one of the strongest finishers.
"You have just got to leave her alone early," Rodd said.
"She can fire up a bit so you have got to let her find her feet but she always finishes off well."
