Trainer Tony Gollan has good reason to say he doesn't want the winter carnival to end.
Gollan brought up his 50th metropolitan winner for the season and his 14th since the winter carnival started when Fixation won at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Fixation ($26) fought off Homehill ($17) to score by a half length in the Listed $100,000 Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m).
Gollan's team has won $1.2 million since the start of the carnival including victories in the Group One Doomben 10,000, the Group Two Victory Stakes, the Group Three Rough Habit Plate, the Listed Ipswich Cup and Listed Eye Liner Stakes.
"I truly don't want the carnival to end. It has just been unbelievable but I keep saying you take it while you can in this game," Gollan said.
Fixation cost $30,000 as a yearling for a syndicate which includes former Cronulla NRL player Nathan Long.
"I would be surprised if he didn't make a very good three-year-old next season," Gollan said.
"He was a maiden before today but I have always thought we would see the best of him late in the season."
Gollan will be missing from next week's Caloundra Cup meeting because he is taking his new bride Jane on a belated honeymoon to New Zealand.
Meanwhile, trainer Kelly Schweida is worried his impressive winner Epic ($9.50) might be running out of time to tackle the Tattersall's Mile (1600m) on July 12.
The gelding stormed home to win the Carlton Mid Handicap (1200m) indicating he was back near the form which had him rated a potential Group horse.
"A race like the Tatt's Mile would suit him but the meeting is earlier than usual this year and it might be a bit soon for him to tackle 1600m," Schweida said.
