A North Queensland campaign is on the agenda for Architect after his runaway win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Ridden by Tim Bell, Architect, the $4.40 favourite, swept past Agitate ($5) to win the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap (1200m) by 3-1/2 lengths.
Trainer David Lawlor is keen to chase a hometown win in Townsville's signature race, the Cleveland Bay Handicap (1200m) on July 28.
"I'm from up there and I think he'd be suited on the track with long straight to give him plenty of time to wind up," Lawlor said.
"At the moment it's just a dream but I haven't won that race before and I think he's the best horse I've trained so he might be the one to do it."
Architect was placed at Listed level in the Mick Dittman Plate at Doomben earlier in the winter carnival but has been a source of frustration in three subsequent starts.
"He's been getting a long way back and I was sick and tired of running seconds and thirds with him," he said.
"I said to Tim today to try and have him a bit closer if possible without pushing him and try and keep him away from other horses because he needs a bit of room."
Meanwhile trainer Matthew Dunn claimed victory in a battle of the bulge with Believe'n'receive who returned to winning form in the Southbank Insurance Brokers Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.
Unplaced in three lead-up runs, Believe'n'receive ($15) overhauled Saluter ($21) to win by a half head.
"I've had to give him a couple of runs close together to get him to a level of fitness where he needed to be for this race," Dunn said.
"Jim (Byrne) rode him positively and didn't have another horse on his outside which is the way he likes to race."
