Australian most expensive living colt sold at a yearling sale could be set to barrier trial in the next few weeks.
Emaratee, the $4 million Inglis Australian Easter yearling sale purchase last year, is closing in on his first public appearance since he went through the famous Inglis sales yard at Newmarket in April last year.
The son of Fastnet Rock was purchased by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and Emirates Park then sent to the stables of Team Hawkes.
Emaratee was listed to trial earlier this year before the stable had a change of heart as the colt "was still growing and developing”.
Co-trainer Michael Hawkes, who trains in partnership with his father John and brother Wayne, said Emaratee isn't far away.
"He's in work and ticking over nicely,” Hawkes said. "He's probably about a month of trialling.”
Meanwhile, the stable's star juvenile, Golden Slipper winner Mossfun is also in the stable and Hawkes described her condition as "awesome”.
"She's great and looks awesome. We're really happy with her,” he said.
Mossfun is owned Emirates Park, who also own a well-bred first starter for the Hawkes team at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Dhahab is by impressive first season Darley stallion Medaglia D'Oro out of Emirates Park former top racemare Shamekha.
The two-year-old filly makes her racetrack debut in the TAB Early Quaddie 0MW 2YO Handicap (1250m) after two trials.
"She's improving all of the time but is more of a three-year-old,” Michael Hawkes said. "This is all part of her education and we'll be happy if she's hitting the line on Wednesday.”
Top jockey James McDonald takes the ride aboard Dhahab.
